Review: Roku HD-XR Internet TV box – Technology Live
Roku is getting better all the time!
Roku recently introduced a new set-top box for connecting Internet entertainment to the TV, and it.s a real winner. The new HD-XR costs $30 more than the previous one, at $129.99, but has expanded Wi-Fi, which means much faster loading movies and better picture.
The beauty of the Roku box is its simplicity. The company promises a five minute install, but it took even less time for me. Plug into the AC outlet, connect HDMI from box to TV, connect to your Wi-Fi network, and then start selecting movies or TV shows from Netflix or Amazon.
If you’re a Netflix subscriber, you have free access to some 17,000 titles from Netflix, which is one of the best deals in techland. You won’t find a lot of current product — the best I could come up with was Paul Blart: Mall Cop, and Bolt — but if you’re an old movie buff, there’s lots to choose from. On a recent Friday evening, I enjoyed Alfred Hitchcock’s classic Strangers of a Train and had Cary Grant’s Holiday and Oliver waiting to be viewed.

“All consumers should know that piracy is illegal and that modifying their Xbox 360 console to play pirated discs violates the Xbox Live terms of use, will void their warranty, and result in a ban from Xbox Live,” Microsoft said in a statement.
The move comes amid this week’s release of “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2″, the mostly highly anticipated Xbox 360 game of the year.

Amazon Kindle now available on your PC!

If you haven’t been lucky enough to own a Kindle by now, which any owner will rave about. Amazon is currently in the process of rolling out Kindle for PC beta (later version for Mac). Allowing you the same features as the book; track where you are; download your inventory of books for easy access and that’s about it. There is nothing extremely special or exciting about the software as you cannot lookup words for definitions as the handled device does. But, if you would rather get on the Kindle bandwagon with a hand held reader, just hop over to Amazon and purchase one of the two versions of the new device:
Makes a great holiday gift for that special reader.
