Man accused of raping senior citizen arrested

A South Florida man accused of raping a woman while she was working at a food pantry has been arrested.

Police said 22-year-old Javerros Wright attacked the 75-year-old victim outside the Pantry of Broward along Northeast Third Avenue and Sixth Street early Thursday morning.

The Pantry of Broward is a charity for senior citizens. "This is one of the few sanctuaries that they have in order to get help. To think that one of our volunteers, a senior, was attacked, it just makes my blood boil," said Bruce Harris of the charity.

The victim is believed to be one of the founders of the organization.

6:36 p.m. EST, December 7, 2009

A Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office corrections deputy was arrested Monday for assaulting a man at gunpoint who was having sex with her daughter in the deputy’s Belle Glade home.

Dorethea Collier, 48, was charged with false imprisonment, aggravated assault and battery for the Nov. 2 incident. She was arrested following a review by the State Attorney’s Office, said Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Teri Barbera.

When Collier arrived home, Larry Butler, 19, of Pahokee, hid in the closet while Collier’s daughter, Uzuri Collier, 20, held her bedroom door shut.

But Dorethea Collier barged in and found her daughter partially clothed and a naked Butler in the closet.

The uniformed deputy punched Butler three or four times and then pointed her gun at him, handcuffed him and ordered him to his knees.

Her daughter begged her not to shoot Butler. Dorethea Collier also threatened to send Butler to jail for raping her daughter.

Review: Roku HD-XR Internet TV box – Technology Live

Roku is getting better all the time!

Roku recently introduced a new set-top box for connecting Internet entertainment to the TV, and it.s a real winner. The new HD-XR costs $30 more than the previous one, at $129.99, but has expanded Wi-Fi, which means much faster loading movies and better picture.

The beauty of the Roku box is its simplicity. The company promises a five minute install, but it took even less time for me. Plug into the AC outlet, connect HDMI from box to TV, connect to your Wi-Fi network, and then start selecting movies or TV shows from Netflix or Amazon.

If you’re a Netflix subscriber, you have free access to some 17,000 titles from Netflix, which is one of the best deals in techland. You won’t find a lot of current product — the best I could come up with was Paul Blart: Mall Cop, and Bolt — but if you’re an old movie buff, there’s lots to choose from. On a recent Friday evening, I enjoyed Alfred Hitchcock’s classic Strangers of a Train and had Cary Grant’s Holiday and Oliver waiting to be viewed.
