So you have probably changed all the clocks in your home to reflect the new Daylight Savings change of Spring Forward. However your computer didn’t get the update time change correctly. Problem is your computer may still be running on the old daylight savings schedule. Before you spring forward your computer to the new time you should know that its not necessary!

Make sure your computer is up-to-date!
For Microsoft Windows XP you can download the Time Zone update here:
Knowledge Base Article# 955839

This will fix your computers database of time zones to the new Spring Forward / Fall Back schedule that was changed a few years ago. After that update, if your clock is not displaying correctly, its because you do not have the time setup on the computer correctly, most likely as a result of changing the time manually instead of automatically letting do it’s thing.

If that’s the case, double-click on the clock in your taskbar, make sure you have the correct time zone set, the correct time and then if both of those are correct check or uncheck ‘Automatically adjust clock for daylight savings changes’.

People have been quick to use their speedtest results for gauging the notorious ‘Spotty 3G’ connectivity issues with T-Mobile. I ran the test a number of times and only after the first 10 tries did I start getting the following really good results which exceeded AT&T’s results from this video:

Here are my results:

My conclusion:
Its great to use the app for getting an idea but people should not be so quick to live and die by its results. After all, speeds and connectivity are relative to the time of day, location, signal strength, bandwidth capacity and server availability and the list goes on.

My first results prior to these were 787 down 424 up and 1172/424 respectively. Either way we should be seeing an update from Google in the next month in an attempt to resolve customer complaints over 3G/Edge connection.

In the meantime, if your in a 3G coverage area and have a good signal why not switch your phone over to WCDMA only. You may get call drops and no internet when there is no 3G service available but at least you will know you are getting 3G if it is on. This can also be done on the G1 which had its own issues when it first rolled out.

[HOW-TO: Change your preferred network selection]
In your Nexus One phone or T-Mobile G1:

Go to your dialer and enter: *#*#4636#*#*
(must be entered all at once without error or it will cancel out)

Select Phone Information

Under Set preferred network type, select WCDMA only.

Additionally, you can press the menu button, press ‘Select radio band’
and choose USA band.

Hope this helps you out.

UPDATE 7/29/2010: 3VO.3.50.033010 modified and ready for downloading!

A while back I posted an instructional on how to install a cooked ROM onto your TMobile Dash aka HTC Excalibur. Since then there have been numerous updates and newer ROMs cooked for digestion.

The biggest changes for the latest download is the incorporation of the new Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system which has been tremendously improved in the area of memory utilization and performance. The latest contender is the 3VOLUTION 3VO.3.50.033010 (WM 6.5 Standard Core 23017) thanks to chef Ookba! Awesome work on this latest release!

There is so much going on with this latest update that I don’t know where to start so it’s better if you just go get it and flash your phone immediately.

Following all the instructions from the previous post but use the 3VO.3.50.033010 download available here when updating the ROM. There are additional mirror sites for alternate download performance or use the primary MediaFire source:

3VO.3.50.033010

WinRAR (Trial) or 7-zip (Free) required to open compressed file.

T-Mobile Latest ROM

You won’t be disappointed!

Flashing instructions haven’t changed so just view them here TMobile Dash Flashing

Twitter is quickly becoming the most common tool of the online world to share short messages and information, so why not use it better. It’s so popular that most news outlets, TV shows, personalities, and celebrities alike have vastly adopted it as the system of choice to stay on top of things. Friend and News Anchor Traci Cloyd uses twitter and so do I, AdamEntity|Twitter.

Twitter makes is easy and simple for you to communicate information to those you follow and those that follow you. A kind of mating call to other birds chirping or “Tweeting” on the internet. You can even set up your mobile device to text message (40404) to the service, a very easy setup required via twitter.com.

Services like Tr.im and Pic.im make it easy to use Twitter for linking to other sites and pictures. But there is so much more you can do with Twitter commands on the website or from your mobile phone. Such as finding out who someone else is by entering: whois SunSentinel which will return the following message

NewsTips, since Jan 2008. bio: Got South Florida (Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Palm Beach, Broward, Dade and Palm Beach counties) news? Let us know! And we’ll let you know when we hear something. location: Fort Lauderdale, FL South Flor web: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/

But there are a list of other robust commands that can be used on Twitter found in this help article The Official Twitter Text Commands.

Turning Twitter off and on: device notifications

ON: turns ALL phone notifications on.

OFF: turns ALL phone notifications off.

STOP, QUIT: stops all messages to your phone immediately

ON username: turns on notifications for a specific person on your phone. For example, ON alissa.

OFF username: turns off notifications for a specific person on your phone. For example, OFF blaine.

FOLLOW username: this command allows you to start receiving notifications for a specific person on your phone. Example: follow jeremy

LEAVE username: this command allows you to stop receiving notifications for a specific person on your phone. Example: leave benfu

Fun Stuff: friends, favorites, and stats!

There’s more to Twitter than OFF and ON! Use the commands below to send private messages, mark updates as favorites, or even remind someone to update their Twitter page if you’re wondering what they’re doing!

@username + message
directs a twitter at another person, and causes your twitter to save in their "replies" tab.
Example: @meangrape I love that song too!

D username + message
sends a person a private message that goes to their device, and saves in their web archive.
Example: d krissy want to pick a Jamba Juice for me while you’re there?

WHOIS username
retrieves the profile information for any public user on Twitter.
Example: whois jack

GET username
retrieves the latest Twitter update posted by the person.
Example: get goldman

NUDGE username
reminds a friend to update by asking what they’re doing on your behalf.
Example: nudge biz

FAV username
marks a person’s last twitter as a favorite. (hint: reply to any update with FAV to mark it as a favorite if you’re receiving it in real time)
Example: fav al3x

STATS this command returns your number of followers, how many people you’re following, and which words you’re tracking.

INVITE phone number
will send an SMS invite to a friend’s mobile phone.
Example: Invite 415 555 1212
