We have seen Netflix dominate the movies at home business and they are about to take the next step in providing streaming services to gaming consoles. The Instant Streaming Disc offered by Netflix will allow you to connect to your Watch Instantly Queue on your Playstation 3 console. I would personally prefer to see a add-on download as they did with the Photo Album and Playstation Home features but this will be a great option either way.

We have already seen the service become available to rival system XBox360 and we happily receive it any way possible. You must have a valid Netflix account in order to apply. Now I can have my $99 Roku in one room and the PS3 in the living room!

Netflix (NFLX) has continuously been a powerhouse and it makes complete sense that it is constantly making money since its 1997 inception. Offering at home DVD rental service and moved into online streaming to your laptop, XBox 360 and Roku set-top device.

Netflix has advanced so quickly with its technology to provide convenient services to their users (including me, I Love It!) and they continue to astound us with more options. Managing your queue online is great, on your phone via mobile.netflix.com is better but now with a recent release from Microsoft you can truly manage your queue and view previews of available movies.

The new Netflix Mobile application for Windows Mobile devices is awesome! It allows you to have handheld access to your queue and even search capabilities. So no more jumping to IMDB to look up that actor or actress all the time, just jump into your phone and search.

So what’s next? The technology is already capable of streaming media to a handheld device and can essentially stream an entire movie to your phone. But that raises some questions about mobile carrier data plans and costs increases as they try to get their hands around the need for unlimited 3G and 4G internet access for media. And additionally, do you really want to watch movies on your cell phone? Well maybe if you had a large enough screen and an extended battery pack, as wireless data and keeping the screen on for an hour at a time is not necessarily convenient with most phones.

We will have to wait and see but you can go pick up the application at Microsoft Total Access for your Windows Mobile devices, it’s absolutely free but you will have to register. (That should be easy, I think everyone I know has at least one Junk Mail account with Hotmail)

Now I’m being asked about G1 Android version of the software… Nothing yet.

Download: Mobile Manager for Netflix

More info from the Microsoft Blog

[Update: 10/13/08 Netflix Watch instantly Horror Marathon!]

I have had the opportunity for several months to Beta test PlayOn from The Media Mall, which streams various content providers over your home network to an array of devices, particularly in my case PlayStation 3. I love watching my Hulu.com content but I also love watching my Netflix Watch Instantly without committing to the $100 Roku device. At least not just yet even though Netflix is now feeding us with another 1,000 streaming videos from the Starz lineup. Oh joy!!!

The biggest advantage over the Roku is having a self-contained device that transcodes your video content and will soon be providing HD content once Netflix rolls it out. PlayOn requires a computer to perform all the transcoding and when HD content does become available you will need a computer with a little more power to do the job. Here are some screen captures of one of the most disturbing films I have seen in a long time, Masters of Horror: Takashi Miike: Imprint. Freaky!!!

Netflix: One month free trial offer, but my recommendation if you want to use PlayOn, a Roku, or just watch online, get the $8.99 1-Disk-at-a-time plan which provides you with unlimited watch online a month.

Netflix Watch Instantly Horror Marathon

I have been watching non-stop horror movies and will continue through the entire month of blood and gore. Now I have invited friends over to partake in the festivities of gore watching.

So here it what we have watched so far:
