HOT 105 is learning what killed best selling author E. Lynn Harris. The coroner’s report revealing Harris had heart disease, hardening of the arteries, complicated by high blood pressure. Harris was also a diabetic. He died Thursday in Los Angeles. Funeral plans have not been announced yet. E. Lynn Harris was 54.

Black people are three times more likely than whites to suffer high blood pressure. Those with: diabetes, who’re overweight, smoke or have high cholesterol are more likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke. What happens? CDC FLU VACCINE PRIORITY LIST
Pregnant women, people who take care of infants, children, young adults and health care workers, in that order, will be the first to get the swine flu vaccine when it starts arriving in September. The people at the Centers for disease control deciding who’s first in line for the vaccine at an emergency meeting yesterday. Pregnant women deemed to be at the highest risk.
COAST GUARD CALLS OFF SEARCH
The U.S. Coast Guard has called off its search for dozens of Haitian migrants off the coast of Turks and Caicos. At least 15 people are confirmed dead. 119 were rescued. Their boat slammed into a coral reef and broke apart either Sunday or Monday. Turks and Caicos officials have already sent 60 of those rescued back to Haiti.
BROWARD TEACHERS UNION SUES DISTRICT
The Broward teacher’s union is suing the school district over its plans to hire 89 new teachers instead of rehiring those who were laid off. According to the district, none of the teachers who were laid off met the qualifications.
The union says it can’t be sure because the district will not provide the names of the teachers, the schools or the certifications of the teachers who were laid off.
ALLEGED CAT KILLER ASKS FOR DEAL?
We’re learning more about, Tyler Weinman, the suspect charged with the deaths of 19 cats in Palmetto and Cutler Bay. Court documents released yesterday shed some light on the case. A search warrant found, cat nip, dark clothing and cutting instruments. The case appears to be largely circumstantial. Detectives are still waiting on DNA test results. Weinman’s trial is scheduled to start, October 19th.
