MIAMI SLOT MACHINES?
You could soon do more than fly in and out of Miami International Airport. Miami Dade Commissioners are reconsidering installing slot machines at MIA and are reportedly moving right away to get a permit. HOT 105 will keep you posted.
 
BROWARD TEACHERS COULD BE REHIRED.
Between now and tomorrow hundreds of teachers laid off in Broward County will find out if they’ll be returning to work. 394 teachers were let go last week, victims of budget cuts. They’ll get word by certified mail and email.
 
MARLINS STADIUM CONSTRUCTION PREP
Construction is set to begin today on the Marlins brand new stadium. Crews are doing some prep work this morning to prepare for that event.  Last minute snags kept Miami Dade Commissioners working until about 12:30, finally voting to approve some changes to allow construction to begin. Money was the hold up. The effort to raise 306 million dollars in bonds came up short because of an interest rate problem with the bonds. The Marlins paid the 6 million dollars so the project could stay on schedule. If all goes according to plan the stadium is scheduled to open in 2012.
 
EXTRA $1.00 CIGARETTE TAX
Smokers in Florida, know this. Cigarettes will cost you more money. Official yesterday, a new tax went into effect, an extra dollar a pack on cigarettes. Authorities with ATF, suspect the increase could lead to a wave of smuggling operations as people try to drive cigarettes from Georgia and Alabama. It is illegal to bring more than two cartons of cigarettes from another state.
Authorities are still trying to figure out how to tax cigarette sales on the internet.
 
VENUS /SERENA ADVANCE AT WIMBLEDON
South Florida residents, Venus and Serena Williams, making it to the semi-finals at Wimbledon. If each wins their next match they’ll meet in the finals.
 
BLACK FEMALE CEO AT XEROS
The new CEO at Xerox, Ursula Brown is making history. The company’s first black female chief executive officer. She started with Xerox in 1980 as an intern and worked her way up the corporate ladder.
