H1N1 DEATH — RENEWS CALLS FOR PRECAUTIONS 
After the death of a 9 year old Miami Dade boy, there is a renewed call this morning for people to take precautions to avoid the spread of the H1N1 flu virus. The boy was Florida’s first swine flu related death. The most important thing you can do is to frequently wash your hands.
The 9 year old boy had asthma and died one day after developing flu symptoms. Experts say asthma sufferers are especially susceptible.
 
FDA ORDERS ZICAM PRODUCTS OFF THE MARKET
The Food and Drug Administration ordering the makers of the popular cold remedy Zicam to pull several of its products off the market because they can permanently damage user sense of smell: the cold remedy swabs, the gel and the children’s swabs. The FDA says about 130 people have reported losing their sense of smell.  Zinc in the product can cause nasal nerve damage.
Because the Zicam products are herbal remedies, they were not originally regulated by the FDA. In 2006 the makers paid 12 million dollars to settle more than 300 lawsuits alleging the product caused users to lose their sense of smell.
 
DEERFIELD BEACH ASST. FOOTBALL COACH ARRESTED
The assistant football coach at Deerfield Beach High, 30 year old Dadrion Wilson, is now being investigated by the Broward School Board after his arrest on drug and gun charges.  North Miami Beach police say they saw him throw away a bag of cocaine during a traffic stop — and that they found a gun when they searched his car.
 
ALLEGED CAT KILLER’S HEARING 
The alleged Palmetto Bay cat killer,  18-year-oldTyler Weinman could be released from jail today if  a psych exam shows he is competent. Weinman is accused of killing 19 cats.  The teen’s father says he is innocent.
 
HAITI’S PRIME MINISTER COMES TO SOUTH FLORIDA
Haiti’s Prime Minister, Michele Pierre-Louis is coming to South florida. He’s speaking tomorrow night at an event that will showcase investment and business opportunities on the island nation. It’s tomorrow night, 6 o’clock at the Double Tree Biscayne Bay Hotel.
