MIAMI DADE CORRECTION OFFICER COMMITS SUICIDE
A Miami Dade Corrections officer is dead, an apparent suicide. Police say he was on a dinner break and in uniform when he shot and killed himself inside his car near a major intersection in Overtown: NW 20th Street and 5th place. Police do not believe anyone else was involved. So far his name has not been released.
POMPANO BEACH CITY MANAGER RESIGNS
A statement expected later today from now former Pompano Beach City Manager, Keith Chadwell. He resigned, effective June 12th. Chadwell was almost 2 years into a 5 year contract.
PRE-SCHOOL TEACHER FACES ABUSE CHARGES
A South Florida pre-school teacher, Jean Dorvil, now officially charged with 3 counts of child abuse and 3 counts of battery. Police say charges were filed after Dorvil confessed. He taught in a pre-school program that was run out of Charles Drew Middle School in Liberty City. He’s been in jail since he was arrested Friday. A 5 year old girl says he kicked her in the face and 2 boys say they were abused. Dorvil has been suspended from his job.
FDA WARNS MAKERS OF CHEERIOS
The Food and Drug Administration cracking down on the makers of Cheerios for claiming the product can help prevent or treat heart disease. On the front of the box in big bold letters a claim the cereal helps lower cholesterol, in the fine print in fine print telling customers they also need a diet low in saturated fat. The FDA says by making the claim Cheerios violates a drug food and cosmetics safety act.
FACE PAINT WARNING
The FDA is also warning parents about a brand of face pant, “Fun Express”. Some of it was found to have yeast and mold and it’s caused some children to have rashes and other reactions. It was made in China and sold before February of this year.
