PLANTATION – Police shot and killed a person wanted on several felony warrants this morning after the suspect tried to flee in a car and dragged an officer through a parking lot, authorities said.
The person, who died behind a Mobil gas station at the southwest corner of Sunrise Boulevard and University Drive at about 9:30 a.m., was not identified.
The police officer who was dragged had minor injuries and was treated at the scene, police Detective Robert Rettig said. He was not shot.
The officers who opened fire on the suspect have been placed on administrative leave, Rettig said. He would not say how many officers were involved.

Rettig said the incident began when police got a tip there was a stolen black Dodge Charger parked behind the gas station with a suspect wanted on several warrants, including armed robbery and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
An officer confronted the suspect and used a stun gun, but it had no effect, Rettig said.
The officer grabbed the steering wheel, and was dragged when the suspect tried to drive away.
Several other police officers responded, and the suspect was shot and killed, Rettig said. The car, with bullet holes in its windshield, came to rest under some trees along Sunrise Boulevard, behind the gas station.
Orange cones marked bullet casings and what appeared to be a Taser on the asphalt in the parking lot.
"It was just boom, boom, boom, boom," said Maggie Dorfman, who works at South Florida Laser Eye Center across the street. "We locked the door. We didn’t know what was going on."
