[Update: 10/13/08 Netflix Watch instantly Horror Marathon!]
I have had the opportunity for several months to Beta test PlayOn from The Media Mall, which streams various content providers over your home network to an array of devices, particularly in my case PlayStation 3. I love watching my Hulu.com content but I also love watching my Netflix Watch Instantly without committing to the $100 Roku device. At least not just yet even though Netflix is now feeding us with another 1,000 streaming videos from the Starz lineup. Oh joy!!!
The biggest advantage over the Roku is having a self-contained device that transcodes your video content and will soon be providing HD content once Netflix rolls it out. PlayOn requires a computer to perform all the transcoding and when HD content does become available you will need a computer with a little more power to do the job. Here are some screen captures of one of the most disturbing films I have seen in a long time, Masters of Horror: Takashi Miike: Imprint. Freaky!!!

Netflix: One month free trial offer, but my recommendation if you want to use PlayOn, a Roku, or just watch online, get the $8.99 1-Disk-at-a-time plan which provides you with unlimited watch online a month.
